Raman Science CentreThe Raman Science Centre is an interactive science centre located in Nagpur that is affiliated with Mumbai�s Nehru Science Centre and was developed with the objective of promoting a scientific attitude amongst the masses. The centre was established on 7 March in 1992, following which the planetarium was made functional on 5 January 1997. Ambazari lakeLocated on the southwest border of Nagpur in Maharashtra in India, the Ambazari Lake is one of the eleven lakes and largest one that the city of Nagpur houses. Boating facilities in rowboats, as well as self-driven paddleboats, are also available to the visitors, which add to the fun and excitement of visiting the lake and help them to explore the surrounding scenic beauty.The Ambazari Lake is situated just 6 kilometres away from the western outskirts of Nagpur and is looked after and maintained by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). It was initially built in the year 1870, under Bhonsle rule, for supplying water to the city. Just beside the Ambazari Lake, one can find the Ambazari Garden, which is particularly popular amongst the children and doubles up as an amusement park for them. The garden also has pavements walking, a fountain, electric rides and various amusement games for the kid. In fact, the lake derives its name Ambazari, because of this very fact that it is surrounded by mango trees. (The word Amba means mango in Marathi.) Futala lakeThe city of Nagpur boasts of being home to eleven magnificent and scenic lakes, and the Futala Lake is one them. Also known as the Telankhedi Lake, it is located in the western part of Nagpur, about 6 kilometres away from the city centre, and is believed to be more than 200 years old. The Futala Lake was built by Raja Bhosle and is spread over 60 acres. The lake is well known not only in Nagpur but also all across the state of Maharashtra for its charming atmosphere and beauty. Perhaps the best attraction at this lake is the coloured fountains, which when lit up, are a sight to behold, and are enjoyed by people of all age groups. The breathtaking Futala Lake is surrounded by lush green forests on its three sides, and a well landscaped Chowpatty on the other. All of these add to the beauty of the lake and attract visitors from all across the country to visit it and enjoy some peaceful moments in the lap of nature, away from the dirt and dust of the daily life. The delicious food that is served by the restaurants in the vicinity of the lake is a bonus, and so is the convenient location of the lake. Nagardhan FortSituated at a distance of about 50 kilometers from Nagpur, the erstwhile Nandivardhan was the first capital of the ancient dynasty of Vakatakas. A small fort, this place is said to have been built for the purpose of defending Nagpur's easternmost provinces from a possible enemy attack. Nagardhan fort is square in shape with an outer battlement and an inner wall that surrounds the fort. Interestingly, this place has an underground temple, where an Idol of Goddess Durga is placed on what appears to be a sill of a structure shaped like a well. |
Navegaon National ParkOne of the most famous tourist destinations near Nagpur, Navegaon National Park is located at a distance of about 140 kilometres from Nagpur. Apart from providing for a jeep safari and housing a huge variety of wildlife species, there are various other attractions to visit Navegaon. Right at the centre is the Navegaon Dam, which is said to have been built around the eighteenth century. Catch a panoramic view of the entire park, atop the watchtower in the middle of the lake.
